Sarajo Frieden is an artist and illustrator based in Los Angeles. Her studio borders Thai Town, Little Armenia, and Koreatown, with nearby Guatemalan and Salvadoran bakeries. Griffith Park is a source of inspiration with its wild deer, rabbits, coyote, and the occasional rattlesnake. She has always loved to draw and tell stories with her work. She is inspired by an ever evolving list which includes nature, travel, dance, Ukiyo-e, Indian textiles, Persian miniatures, shadow puppets, and the films of Tati and Fellini. Early influences were her grandparents and the world they brought with them from Hungary, which included folk art, pastries, embroidery, and new ideas about art and politics.
